Gilbert's Coppice

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination in itself, Gilbert's Coppice sits just outside Warwick and gives you that sense of stepping away from the town without actually going anywhere. The forest floor is thick with leaf litter, the canopy dense enough that even on bright days there's a peaceful gloom to it all. You're looking at a mix of mature trees and younger growth - evidence of active woodland management rather than just abandoned forest.

It's the sort of place walkers will genuinely enjoy, particularly those after a quick leg-stretcher rather than a full day out. The paths are manageable and the space is intimate enough that you feel properly in the woods without needing navigation skills. Families with young kids who can handle uneven ground will find it decent for an hour, though there's no playground nonsense to keep them entertained if they get restless.

With Mousley House Farm just half a mile away, this works brilliantly as a morning or late-afternoon outing from a caravan base. It's the kind of place you'd slot in around other Warwick attractions rather than drive across the county for. If you're after something with more drama or views, it's not your spot. But for a genuine bit of Warwickshire woodland without the crowds, it does the job. The fact it's free and unfussy about opening hours makes it appealingly low-pressure - turn up when you want, walk as long as you fancy.
