Rowantree How

The walk up Rowantree How from Holmrook is straightforward enough, though calling it a peak feels generous - you're looking at a modest fell rather than anything that'll test experienced walkers. That said, the views across the Lake District's western fringes are genuinely decent, particularly if you time it right when cloud cover lifts. The summit itself is bare moorland with a trig point, nothing fancy, but the surrounding landscape opens up nicely.

It's the kind of place that works well for families wanting a real walk without committing to something serious like Helvellyn or Scafell. Children will need decent legs though - it's not a stroll. The moorland terrain can be boggy, especially after rain, and there's no shelter to speak of once you're exposed, so weather matters.

Allow a couple of hours for the round trip, depending on pace and how long you linger at the top. There's something satisfying about bagging a fell this way - less famous than its neighbours, but properly worth your time.
