It's completely free, and there's no time commitment beyond a leisurely stroll. You're not carving out an afternoon here; you're encountering it as you move through the city centre. Best done as part of a proper Winchester walk, linking it with the cathedral, the High Street, and the riverside.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan sites - Holden Farm Camping (5.2 miles away) is the standout for facilities and atmosphere - Winchester itself makes an excellent day trip. The art is a bonus, not the draw. History types will get more from the cathedral and Roman ruins. Families with younger kids might find the outdoor sculptures mildly interesting but nothing to plan a visit around.

Go if you're in Winchester anyway. Don't make it your reason for being there.
