Roundway Hill

The walk up Roundway Hill takes about twenty minutes from Devizes, and on a clear day you get proper views across the Wiltshire countryside - rolling chalk downland stretching out in all directions. It's not dramatic or particularly high, but there's something satisfying about the perspective once you're up there. The hill itself is straightforward enough, a gentle climb with decent paths, though it can get muddy after rain so decent boots help.

History types might appreciate the Iron Age fort remains scattered about, though you need to know what you're looking for. Allow an hour if you're taking your time and actually soaking it in rather than rushing the summit.

Devizes itself is a proper market town with good pubs and decent shops if you need provisions. The walk pairs nicely with a wider exploration of the chalk landscape around here - it's not a destination in itself, but rather a solid local walk that genuinely rewards the effort if you've based yourself in the area.
