Round Hill

The walk up Round Hill rewards you with one of those proper Hampshire views that makes the climb worthwhile. From the summit, you get sight lines across the rolling countryside towards Alton and beyond - nothing dramatic, but genuinely lovely on a clear day. The hill itself isn't much to look at from below, but that's half the charm. It's the kind of place locals know and visitors miss entirely.

You're looking at a straightforward hillside walk rather than a technical scramble. Most people manage it in under an hour return, though you'll want to factor in time to actually stand around at the top and take it in. The views stretch properly across the South Downs in decent weather, which is really the whole point of being here. Come early morning or late afternoon when the light's better and the crowds from Alton aren't about.

This works brilliantly as part of a longer walking day in the area. If you're staying at Feather Down Manor Farm just a few miles away, you could easily combine it with other local walks and woodland routes. Adhurst Yurts is similarly close - the kind of spot where guests are keen to get out walking anyway. Families with decent walkers will get something from it; toddlers less so given the climb. History buffs won't find much here beyond the obvious - it's about the walk and the view, not any particular story. Free to visit, obviously. No facilities at the summit, so bring water.
