Going in winter or shoulder season means you'll dodge the summer tourist crush that hits the island. Free to use, obviously. Budget maybe 30-45 minutes if you're browsing, less if you've got a specific task.

Fits well with a longer Bute holiday if you're camping at Beach House Pods just down the coast. It's the sort of low-key stop that breaks up a rainy day without demanding much of your schedule. Dunoon's across the water, but most visitors heading to Rothesay are already committed to the island.
