About Rook's Cave

Cut into the limestone cliffs between Tenby and Saundersfoot, this natural sea cave stretches back roughly 30 metres into the rock face. You'll find it along the coastal path - look for the obvious opening in the cliff about halfway between the two seaside towns.

The cave itself is accessible at low tide, though you'll want decent footwear as the rocks can be slippery. Inside, the walls show clear geological layers, and there's usually a shallow pool at the back where water collects. Kids absolutely love the adventure of exploring it, though keep a proper eye on them near the water.

Best visited as part of a coastal walk rather than a destination in itself. The surrounding clifftop path offers cracking views across Carmarthen Bay, and you're likely to spot seals bobbing about in the water below. Allow about 20 minutes to have a good poke around, longer if you're combining it with the walk.

Timing matters here. Check tide times before you go - at high tide the entrance can be completely submerged. Early morning tends to be quieter, and you'll often have the place to yourself.

If you're staying at one of the holiday parks near Tenby like Haven Kiln Park or Freshwater East, it makes for a decent half-day excursion combined with a walk along this particularly lovely stretch of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.
