Rock Up

Rock Up is an indoor climbing wall just outside Beverley, and it's genuinely one of the best ways to burn off energy if you've got kids in tow or you're after a proper workout. The place is set up with routes for absolute beginners right through to experienced climbers, so you won't feel out of place whether you're a first-timer or you climb regularly.

The staff know their stuff and won't let you loose on a wall without proper instruction. Expect to spend a couple of hours here if you're doing it properly - rushing through defeats the purpose. It's the sort of activity that works well for families because everyone can do it at their own pace, though youngsters under a certain age might need supervising. Groups get a buzz out of it; there's something about cheering someone on as they tackle a particularly tricky section.

If you're camping at Manor Farm Camping nearby, this makes a solid half-day option when the weather turns or you just fancy a change of pace from park life. Beverley itself is worth a wander round afterwards - proper market town with decent pubs and a cracking minster if you're into that sort of thing.

Worth checking their website or ringing ahead for current rates and whether they do beginner sessions at set times. Not the cheapest afternoon out, but it beats another round of mini golf.
