About Rickham Sands
What you're looking at is a crescent of sand backed by dramatic red sandstone cliffs. At low tide, there's decent space for a wander. High tide crowds you in pretty tight, so timing matters. The water's always bracing - this is the South Devon coast, not the Med - and there's no lifeguard cover, so strong swimmers only. Families with young kids might find the scrambled access a dealbreaker, and the rough path is murder on buggies.
Walkers and photographers get the most from Rickham. The coastal path here is genuinely lovely, and the light on those red cliffs in late afternoon is something else. Bring a decent pair of trainers with grip. There's no facilities whatsoever - no café, no loos, nothing - so sort yourself before you come.
Stay at Wilton Farm Camping just two miles inland and you've got an easy evening walk to watch the light change. It's the sort of place that takes thirty minutes to reach but lingers in your head months later.
