Rhos Hill

The walk up Rhos Hill rewards you with proper views across Cardigan Bay and inland toward the Preseli Hills - the sort of vistas that make you understand why people stick around Pembrokeshire for weeks. It's not a lung-bursting scramble; the ascent from Cardigan is steady and manageable, taking most people somewhere between an hour and ninety minutes depending on fitness and how often you stop to peer at the landscape.

On a clear day you'll see across the water toward Cardigan Island, with the town itself laid out below like a map. The summit itself is modest - there's no dramatic rocky outcrop or trig point to mark your arrival - but that somehow makes it better. You're standing on something real rather than ticking a box.

Walkers will get the most from this one, particularly those who've based themselves at Cardigan Camping and Touring Caravan Site or Happy Campers Family Park and fancy a half-day outing that doesn't require scrambling or technical kit. It's the sort of walk where you can take your time, bring a flask, sit about for twenty minutes without feeling you're wasting daylight. Kids aged seven upwards will manage it fine if they're used to walking; younger ones might find the return leg a bit much.

Go in the morning if possible - afternoon light can get hazy over the bay. And check the forecast beforehand; cloud rolling in makes this one significantly less rewarding. The ground can get boggy after rain too.
