Rhino House

The Rhino House sits on the edge of Burford, a proper one-off that stops you in your tracks the moment you spot it. Built in the 1970s by a local eccentric with a passion for wildlife, this quirky stone structure is shaped like a rhinoceros - complete with a horn-shaped turret and the whole thing rendered in grey concrete that's weathered rather beautifully over the decades.

You can't actually go inside, mind you. It's a private residence now, so your visit is really about standing in front of it, taking photos, and having a good laugh at the sheer audacity of someone building a rhino-shaped house in the Cotswolds. The detail work is genuinely impressive though - the sculptor knew what they were doing, even if the concept sounds daft on paper.

It's the sort of thing that appeals to architecture enthusiasts with a sense of humour, families with curious kids who appreciate the weird and wonderful, and anyone after something genuinely different from the usual Cotswolds tourist fare. Five minutes to find it, another five to admire it, then you're off.

If you're staying at Burford Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite - which is practically on the doorstep - it's barely worth driving to. Walk into Burford proper, grab a coffee, track down the Rhino House as a bonus quirk. The town itself has proper charm without relying on this one oddity to carry it.
