You're looking at a place where nature has genuinely been allowed to do its thing, not a manicured nature trail. The footpaths are decent but can get boggy depending on rainfall, so wellies are a sensible shout rather than walking shoes. Most people spend an hour to ninety minutes here, though if you're keen on birdwatching you could easily stretch it longer. Spring and early summer are cracking times - more activity, more bird song, fewer midges than midsummer tends to offer. It's free to explore, which is refreshing. The reserve works well as part of a broader Oxfordshire ramble if you're camping at one of the nearby sites like Burford Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite or Grove Farm Glamping Pods. Burford itself is only a couple of miles away, so you can easily combine an afternoon here with exploring that honey-stone market town. Families with young kids find it engaging enough - there's real wildlife to spot, water to look at, and paths that don't demand hiking boots. Walkers get a genuine sense of managing the landscape rather than just walking through it. History types less so, unless you're interested in conservation efforts. It's worth an afternoon if you're in the area, not worth detouring 40 minutes out of your way for.
