Repton's Wood

The woodland here feels properly old - proper ancient, the kind of forest that's been left to itself long enough that you forget Shrewsbury is just down the road. Repton's Wood is a straightforward walk through mixed broadleaf, nothing fancy, but that's rather the point. You get decent canopy cover, plenty of roots underfoot to keep you honest, and the sort of quiet that makes you remember why you came to Shropshire in the first place.

It's walkers and dog owners who'll get the most from this one. Not a destination in itself - you're not clearing a day for it - but it slots perfectly into a morning ramble if you're based at one of the caravan parks around Shrewsbury. Love2Stay is closest at just over two miles, so you could easily combine this with a visit to town or a proper hike elsewhere in the area. The woodland doesn't demand much time, maybe an hour if you meander, less if you know where you're going.

Bringing kids? They'll manage it for 30 minutes before asking how much longer. The paths are manageable but unremarkable, so you'll need them keen on forests specifically rather than just after a general outing. No playground, no facilities that I'm aware of, no obvious attractions beyond the trees themselves. That's either a plus or a minus depending on what you're after. Free access appears to be the deal, though it pays to check locally when you arrive. Decent spot for stretching legs between campsites, nothing more.
