Honestly, it's not a destination in itself. The square's been restored in recent years and it shows. The lawns are actually green, not bald patches of worn earth. Kids won't find it thrilling for hours, but it's a decent spot for them to burn off energy before heading back to camp.

Go in late spring or early autumn when it's not rammed with tourists and the weather's half decent. Entry's free, obviously - it's a public space. Twenty minutes to half an hour is enough unless you're serious about sketching the architecture or just need somewhere quiet to read. It anchors Brighton's seafront properly, which matters if you're basing yourself at Chalky Downs or Foot of the Downs further out.
