Redwood Park

The tall conifers here create this oddly peaceful tunnel effect - you walk in under dense canopy and suddenly the world gets quiet. Redwood Park, just outside Rugeley, is essentially a woodland walk through planted forest, the sort of place where you can properly breathe for the first time in weeks.

It's straightforward stuff: paths wind through the trees, mostly flat, mostly easy underfoot. The redwoods themselves aren't native - they're planted specimens - but they're tall enough and old enough that you forget that after about ten minutes. Good for walkers who want proper shade but don't fancy scrambling over rocks. Families with younger kids will manage fine; there's something about the scale of the trees that keeps them entertained without needing a visitor centre or ice cream van.

The real strength here is proximity to the broader Cannock Chase area. If you're camping at Cannock Chase Camping & Caravanning Club Site just 3 miles away, or any of the smaller sites clustered around Four Oaks Farm and Tackeroo, Redwood Park makes a solid half-day addition rather than a destination in itself. It's the sort of place you fit in between other things - a walk before lunch, an escape if the weather turns just warm enough but not hot.

Allow 90 minutes if you're doing a full loop, less if you're just after a quick leg-stretch. No facilities that I found, so bring water. It's free to access, which counts for something. Not spectacular, but honest woodland walking.
