Reamains of a Hut

You'll find yourself standing in front of what's left of an Iron Age roundhouse near Pitlochry - essentially a circular stone foundation and low walls that hint at how people actually lived around two thousand years ago. It's the sort of place that stops you mid-walk and makes you think properly about scale and time.

There's not much to see, to be honest. No interpretation boards, no reconstructions, just the archaeological bones of the thing. Bring a decent guidebook or do your homework beforehand, because the site itself won't tell you much. What you get instead is the satisfaction of standing where someone's hearth once burned, and that's worth something.

Historynerds and walkers will appreciate the effort more than families with young kids - it requires a bit of imagination and patience. Allow maybe fifteen minutes unless you're the type to sit and contemplate for longer.

The site fits well into a broader Perthshire walking holiday, particularly if you're based at Kilvrecht Campsite or Tighnavon Glamping Pods nearby. Both are solid bases for exploring the area's archaeological sites and hill walks. The landscape around Pitlochry is genuinely lovely for rambling, and this hut becomes part of a bigger picture rather than a destination in itself.

Free to visit, obviously - there's nothing there to charge for. Go in decent weather and wear proper boots. The walk to find it adds its own appeal.
