Creag a' Mhadaidh

The walk up Creag a' Mhadaidh rewards you with proper Highland views - which is exactly why you'll be sharing the path with half of Pitlochry on a decent weather weekend. It's a straightforward ascent from near the town, steep in sections but nothing that requires scrambling gear, and it'll take most people around two hours up and the same back down.

What makes it worth the effort is the panorama across Perthshire once you've gained the higher ground. On clear days you're looking out towards the Cairngorms, and Loch Tummel sits below like something from a postcard - though you'll notice plenty of other walkers have already worked that one out. The peak itself is bare moorland with wind-scoured rock, the sort of place that feels genuinely wild even though you're never far from civilization.

Families with reasonable fitness will manage it fine, though younger kids might need a rest or two on the steeper bits. It's the sort of walk that makes sense as a half-day outing while staying at Tighnavon Glamping Pods or Kilvrecht Campsite - both are close enough that you won't spend your holiday just driving. Go midweek if you can stomach the weather, because weekends get properly rammed with boot-clad tourists and Instagram photographers jockeying for the same cairn photo.
