Ravensknowle Park

The moorland rises up sudden and proper once you leave Holmfirth behind, and Ravensknowle Park is where that transition really hits you. The terrain is rolling rather than punishing, so it suits anyone from keen hikers to families who want something more interesting than a circuit around a local park. On clear days the visibility is excellent. Come midweek outside school holidays if you want it quiet - weekends bring steady foot traffic from the surrounding villages.

Allowing two to three hours gives you time to explore without feeling rushed, though honestly you could spend longer just sitting and watching the light change across the moor. There's something about open spaces like this that makes you actually put your phone away.

If you're camping at Holme Valley just down the road, or over at Elland Hall Farm towards Hebden Bridge, Ravensknowle is the obvious morning walk before breakfast. It's free, it costs nothing but time, and it's exactly the sort of spot that justifies parking the campervan for a few days in this part of the world.
