Ransable Hill

The walk up Ransable Hill takes you out of Barnoldswick and into proper moorland terrain where the landscape opens up properly. It's not a dramatic summit - more of a rounded bump on the Pendle Hills - but the views back towards the town and across towards Pendle Hill itself are worth the leg work.

The ascent is straightforward enough. Well-marked paths, mostly firm underfoot, though it can get boggy after rain. You're looking at roughly an hour to get up and back down at a reasonable pace. Families with older kids will manage this fine; younger ones might find the final push a bit of a slog on the legs.

Walkers and fell runners treat this as part of a wider circuit rather than a destination in itself. If you're camped at one of the nearby spots - Shay Gate Farm is genuinely excellent if you can get a pitch, and Tip Top lives up to its name - you could easily string together a morning hike here with a circuit of Pendle Hill for a proper day out. The moorland gets a bit exposed when the weather turns, so pick your day.

There's no visitor infrastructure on the hill itself. Free to access, no permits needed. Best visited as part of a longer walking strategy rather than a quick tick-off. Real value if you're staying locally and want to get your boots on the ground.
