Queensgate Park

Queensgate Park sits right on Bridlington's doorstep - a proper working nature reserve rather than a manicured tourist spot. What you get here is wetland habitat, the kind of place where you might actually spot something worth photographing: water voles, various ducks, and a decent selection of wading birds depending on the season.

It's manageable on foot, with paths that don't demand serious hiking boots. The appeal lies entirely in what you're after. Keen birdwatchers will find it worthwhile, especially during migration periods. Families with restless kids might find it a bit thin on action - there's no playground, no cafe, no facilities to speak of. You're there to watch wildlife or you're not.

The reserve works well as a morning stop if you're staying at one of the caravan parks clustered around Bridlington - South Shore Holiday Park is barely half a mile away, and it breaks up a seaside holiday nicely. You could easily cover it in an hour or less depending on how much time you spend with binoculars glued to your face.

It's free to access, which helps. The setting isn't dramatic - this is Yorkshire coast wetland, not Alpine meadow - but that's rather the point.
