Queen Elizabeth II Country Park Lake

The lake at Queen Elizabeth II Country Park is a proper spot for a walk, especially if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks around Morpeth. It's a decent-sized body of water with paths running around it - good for stretching your legs without needing hiking boots or a packed lunch.

You'll see waterfowl, plenty of trees, and on a clear day the water reflects the sky nicely. It's the sort of place where families with young kids can manage the circuit without complaints, and dog walkers clearly rate it given how many you'll spot. The walking itself is straightforward, mostly flat ground, nothing that'll test your fitness.

The real value here is as a diversion from the holiday parks - Church Point, Sandy Bay, and the others are all within a couple of miles. If you're based at one of those for a week, this gives you somewhere to go that's not the caravan site. An hour's walk is realistic; longer if you're the type to stop and watch the birds.

There's nothing dramatic about it - it won't stay with you the way the Northumberland coast does, and if you're visiting the area specifically for scenery, you could do better inland. But as a morning constitutional during a park holiday? It does the job. Morpeth itself is close enough for an afternoon in town if the weather turns.
