About Pyles Copse
This is walker territory, really. The paths wind through beech and oak with enough ups and downs to keep things interesting without being brutal. If you're staying at Hillview Park or Totteridge Farm just down the road, you can knock this out before lunch and still have the afternoon free. Kids will manage it fine if they're over eight or so - younger ones might lose interest once the novelty of "being in the woods" wears off after thirty minutes.
There's no visitor centre, no café, no facilities to speak of. Just woodland. Which means it's free and it means you'll need to bring your own water. Allow an hour to ninety minutes depending on pace and how many times you stop to check moss or listen for woodpeckers. Best visited after rain when everything smells properly alive, and avoid weekends if you want any sense of solitude.
It slots nicely into a Wiltshire park holiday without demanding much planning. The Ridgeway Campsite is equally close if you're based further afield. Worth a detour if you're staying locally, not worth driving across the county for.
