Pump Track Cheddar by Velosolutions

The Pump Track at Cheddar is a proper spot if you've got kids who can ride a bike without stabilisers. It's a purpose-built circuit designed by Velosolutions - all smooth berms and rollers that you pump round rather than pedal, which sounds daft until you try it and realise how much fun it actually is. Think BMX-style but without needing to be fearless.

This is absolutely a family thing. Children from about seven upwards will get the most from it, though decent young riders can manage earlier. Adults can have a go too, though you'll probably feel a bit self-conscious. The track itself is free to use, which is brilliant - no faff with booking or paying on entry. You can bang about for as long as your legs hold up, which for most families means a couple of hours before everyone's knackered.

Location-wise, it's right on Cheddar's doorstep, making it a solid half-day activity if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks like Cheddar Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite or Cheddar Woods Resort. The Gorge and show caves are ten minutes away if the track doesn't hold everyone's attention - though honestly, most kids don't tire of it quickly. Summer's your best bet weather-wise; winter can be muddy depending on how much rain we've had. Bring water and maybe some snacks. Your legs will thank you.
