Puddock Pond

The water at Puddock Pond sits dark and still, ringed by trees that lean down as if they're keeping secrets. It's a small lake just outside Crieff, the sort of place you could easily miss if you weren't looking for it - and honestly, that's rather the point.

What you get here is genuine quiet. No gift shops, no car park attendants, just you and the water and whatever waterfowl have decided to stick around that day. It's popular with birdwatchers, which tells you everything about the place's appeal. The walking is straightforward enough - there's a path that loops the pond, taking maybe thirty to forty minutes at a gentle pace. Nothing demanding, but it feels like proper countryside.

Families with younger kids might find it a bit thin on excitement after twenty minutes or so. Walkers and anyone seriously interested in spotting birds will get more from it. The water itself is nice enough in summer, but this isn't a bathing spot - it's observation, not activity.

If you're staying at Braidhaugh Holiday Lodge or Twenty Shilling Wood, both just down the road, Puddock Pond makes a decent half-hour detour. Pair it with a walk around Crieff itself or push on to bigger nearby attractions. Free, naturally, and worth fitting in if you're in the area - just don't make it your main event.
