The forest floor is uneven in places, rooty underfoot, which keeps things interesting if you're after actual hiking rather than a leisurely stroll. Paths wind through decent-sized trees, and depending on when you visit you'll either spot snowdrops and early shoots or dappled summer shade. It's the sort of place where you might see deer if you're lucky, though don't bank on it.

This works best for walkers after genuine woodland, not families wanting an afternoon's entertainment - kids will get bored once the initial novelty of trees wears off.
