Prudhoe Golf Club

Prudhoe Golf Club sits just outside Stocksfield in Northumberland, a proper traditional 18-hole course that's been going since 1889. If you're a golfer passing through the area, it's worth a look - the course winds through decent countryside without being spectacular, and it's the sort of place where you'll get a genuine round in without the faffing about you'd get at a fancy resort course.

The membership structure means you'll need to arrange a round in advance, likely as a guest of a member or by ringing ahead to see if they'll take visiting players. Green fees won't break the bank, but do check their current rates before you arrive. You're looking at a solid three and a bit hours for a full round if you're a decent player, longer if you're having an off day.

It's genuinely handy if you're staying at Valley View Camping & Glamping just three miles down the road - makes for an excellent morning out before heading back for lunch. The course suits mid-handicap players best; scratch golfers might find it a touch straightforward, while beginners could get a bit frustrated by some of the trickier holes.

Northumberland's got proper charm if you're not a golfer too, so don't feel obliged to play eighteen if someone drags you along. The clubhouse is standard issue - nothing fancy - but the welcome's warm enough. Book ahead though. Don't just turn up expecting to play.
