The reserve protects a mix of ancient woodland and open grassland, with paths threading through both habitats, and the whole thing feels genuinely lived-in by its wildlife rather than packaged for visitors.

It's best suited to walkers after a gentle hour away from the caravan park rather than a full-day expedition. Bring binoculars if you're into birdwatching - the reserve supports various woodland species that reward early morning visits. Families with young children won't find formal facilities or dramatic viewpoints, so expectations matter here.
