The woodland around Potts Wood, just a short drive from Lancaster, is proper Lancashire forest walking territory. You're looking at mature trees, decent paths, and the kind of quiet you don't often get near a town. It's ideal if you're staying at one of the holiday parks nearby - Crook O'Lune is practically on your doorstep, and the wood makes for a morning or afternoon circuit without any faffing about.

What you actually get here is straightforward: forest paths, some gentle elevation, and enough space to feel properly away from things. It's not dramatic or particularly scenic in the postcard sense. No waterfalls, no viewpoints that'll make you gasp. But if you like trees and quiet, that's the entire appeal.

Families with reasonably energetic kids will manage fine. The paths are accessible enough, though it can get muddy. Older children who don't need constant entertainment do well here. Parents seeking a proper walk without needing to navigate moorland will appreciate how uncomplicated it all is. History buffs won't find much - this is just trees, not ruins or remnants.

Allow a couple of hours for a leisurely loop. The wood's free to access, naturally.
