About Porth Ysgaden
The main draw is the stillness of the water. The bay faces south and east, so you get protection from the Atlantic swells that pummel the other side of the peninsula. Swimming is safer here than at more exposed beaches, which makes it genuinely worth considering if you're bringing younger kids. The sand is firm and drains well. At low tide it opens up properly - good for pottering about with a bucket, or just finding a spot away from the handful of other visitors.
This isn't a destination beach. You wouldn't plan a day trip from Manchester just for Porth Ysgaden. But if you're based at Tyn Ddol Camping or Glampio Coed just down the road, or spending a week on the Llŷn, it's the kind of beach that makes a lazy afternoon. Bring a book, a flask of tea, maybe a picnic. Allow an hour or two, not a full day. The path from the car park is manageable - twenty minutes on foot, give or take.
