Port Eynon Point

The walk down to Port Eynon Point takes the wind right out of you - literally and figuratively. You're rewarded with dramatic cliffs, a working lighthouse that's been guiding ships since 1869, and views across Swansea Bay that stretch for miles on a clear day. The point itself is a proper headland, all windswept grass and salt spray, with a small sandy beach tucked below if you fancy a paddle.

It's the kind of spot that appeals to serious walkers and lighthouse enthusiasts equally. Kids will enjoy the scramble down and spotting seals if you're lucky, though they'll get restless if you linger too long - there's not a café or facilities of note. The beach is okay for an hour of messing about, but it's not a destination beach day.

Timing matters. Go when the light's good and the tide's out if you want to explore properly. The approach from Port Eynon village is straightforward enough, though the final descent involves steps and uneven ground. Budget ninety minutes for the full experience including the walk back up.
