Pool Rough

Pool Rough is a proper woodland walk just outside Shrewsbury - the sort of place where you can actually breathe after spending time in town. It's forest walking at its most straightforward: woodland paths, a small pool that gives the place its name, and enough trees to make you forget you're in the West Midlands at all.

Serious hikers looking for elevation or dramatic scenery should look elsewhere, but if you want a quiet forest morning before heading to the shops or toward one of the nearby caravan parks like Ebury Hill or Beaconsfield, this works well.

The area isn't fussy about access - local knowledge suggests you can visit freely, though if you're basing yourself at Springfield Riverside or Love2Stay further out, Pool Rough makes for an easy morning walk to stretch the legs. Don't expect facilities or signposting that shouts about itself. It's genuinely low-key.
