Pond Wood

A patch of proper woodland just outside Ashford that doesn't pretend to be anything grander than it is. Pond Wood is straightforward - mixed forest, a handful of walking paths, and honestly, the kind of place where you'd rather be on a grey afternoon than a packed summer weekend.

The appeal is simple: decent woodland walking without the crowds you'd fight through at somewhere more famous. There's something about these Kent forests - not dramatic, not wild, just steady and green. The paths are well-trodden but not overcrowded, and if you've got kids who need a proper run-around rather than a visitor centre experience, this delivers.

Walkers will get an hour or so out of it easily, maybe more if you're stopping to spot birds or just breathing properly for the first time in weeks. It's the kind of place that works better as part of a larger trip than a destination in itself - pair it with Go Glamp's glamping site a few miles south and you've got a proper forest break without the drive to somewhere "better."

Timing-wise, spring and autumn are obviously lovely, but frankly the muddy months have their own appeal if you're the sort who doesn't mind wet feet. Worth knowing that there's no visitor infrastructure - no café, no facilities, so come prepared. It's free access, straightforward, no nonsense.
