Pleasureland

Pleasureland sits just outside Arbroath on the Aberdeenshire coast, a proper old-school amusement park that's been doing the same job since the 1990s - giving families a day out without needing to travel to Edinburgh or down south. You get the usual rides: dodgems, a log flume, roller coaster, the kind of things that keep kids entertained for an afternoon. Nothing fancy. Nothing trying too hard.

The park works best for families with younger children, say under twelve. Teenagers might find it a bit tired unless they're the sentimental type who enjoys slightly faded seaside attractions. A few hours is about right - long enough for lunch and a decent spin on the rides, but you won't be hanging about all day. Weather permitting, it's a decent shout in summer holidays when you need to burn off some energy without the stress of queuing for hours.

If you're staying at The Grange Glamping about six miles away, Pleasureland makes an easy half-day addition to your park holiday - keeps the kids happy between trips to the beach or longer walks in the Highlands. Admission won't break the bank, though it's worth checking their website for current opening times and prices before you head over. The Arbroath seafront itself has its charms too if you want to combine it with a proper coastal walk.
