Plas-y-berllan Covert

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination attraction, Plas-y-berllan Covert is a small forested area near Cardigan that rewards those who know it exists. The forest floor is soft underfoot, dense with ferns and moss, and the canopy does that thing Welsh woodlands do best - filters the light into something almost cathedral-like.

It's a working forest, not a manicured park, which means you won't find marked trails or visitor facilities. That's both the appeal and the catch. Bring a map or know the rough direction from Cardigan. Allow an hour for a decent wander, though you could do a quicker loop in twenty minutes.

Families with older kids who actually want to walk will find it peaceful. Don't bring toddlers expecting infrastructure. History enthusiasts might appreciate the traditional Welsh woodland management visible here, but this isn't somewhere you come for a story - you come for air and quiet.

If you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Cardigan Camping, Mwnt Camping, or Blaenwaun further out - this makes a free morning option before heading toward the coast or Cardigan itself. It won't occupy your whole day, but combined with Cardigan's riverside walk and the cliffs at Mwnt, you've got a decent day out.
