This is genuinely worthwhile for history types and walkers heading out from St Andrews, though families with young children might find it lacks the immediate spectacle they're after - there's no interpretation board that I found, and you're essentially hiking to a field. Give yourself an hour if you're thorough, less if you're just poking about. The approach is straightforward enough, and the views across Fife from the top make the walk its own reward regardless.

Camping nearby at Clayton Caravan Park or Craigtoun Meadows puts you well within reach for a morning sortie.
