Pigeon

Pigeon is a contemporary art gallery tucked into Wokingham, a decent enough market town just south of Bracknell. The space itself is fairly intimate - the kind of place where you're genuinely looking at work rather than wandering through acres of white walls feeling obliged to appreciate things. They show emerging and established artists across various media, and the programme shifts regularly enough that repeat visits actually make sense.

It's the sort of gallery that appeals to people who care about visual art without being pretentious about it. If you're into current practice and don't need blockbuster exhibitions or gilded frames, you'll find something worth your time here. It won't eat a whole afternoon though - allow an hour, maybe ninety minutes if there's a show that grabs you.

The real draw is fitting it into a broader Wokingham wander. Bracknell's fine for parks - Scotlands House Campsite and Warfield Park are both within easy reach if you're basing yourself locally - but Wokingham itself has more character. The town centre's pedestrianised in parts, there are decent pubs, and poking into independent galleries breaks up the usual high street experience. Pigeon feels genuinely run by people who know their stuff, rather than corporate art-by-numbers.
