Pheasantry

The Pheasantry sits quietly in the Hampshire countryside near Stockbridge, a working forest where you can actually see what a managed woodland looks like in practice. It's not a theme park or a polished visitor attraction - this is the real deal. You'll find yourself walking among mature trees with proper forest floor underfoot, the kind of place where you notice things: how the light filters through the canopy, the work foresters have done clearing dead wood, the reason pheasants were historically reared here.

Historyfolk will get more from it than others, and walkers certainly appreciate the ground. It's the sort of forest where you can spend an hour or three depending on how much of a rambler you are. Families with young children might find it a touch underwhelming if they're after obvious activities, though older kids who actually like walking will be fine. The reality is there's no café, no visitor centre, no Instagram-friendly installations - you get woodland and that's exactly what you should get.

From Stockbridge it's dead easy to reach, and if you're based at The Meadow Glamping or Stockbridge View, you're only twenty minutes or so away. Both parks are excellent by the way - The Meadow in particular pulls consistent top marks. Pair a morning walk here with an afternoon exploring Stockbridge's high street or one of the other parks in the area, and you've got a proper day. Early morning visits are lovely if you want to avoid what little foot traffic there is.
