Tucked away in the Cheshire countryside just outside Northwich, this quiet lake offers a proper escape from the tourist crowds. The water sits peacefully among farmland, with decent footpaths running around most of the perimeter - though don't expect manicured parkland.

Fishing seems to be the main draw here, with a few anglers usually dotted around the banks on weekends. Walkers will find it pleasant enough for a gentle stroll, particularly if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Blakemere Holiday Park or Delamere Lake Sailing & Holiday Park. The circuit takes about 45 minutes at a leisurely pace.

Honestly, it's not going to set your world alight - the scenery is nice rather than spectacular, and there's little for children beyond feeding any ducks that happen to be about. But sometimes that's exactly what you want: somewhere quiet to sit with a thermos and watch the water.

Best visited in the morning when the light catches the surface nicely. Free access as far as I could tell, though parking can be a bit hit and miss along the lane. Worth combining with a visit to nearby Delamere Forest if you're making the trip from further afield, but perfectly adequate as a quick escape if you're based locally.
