Pepper Cove

A modest cove tucked between Treyarnon and the wider Padstow Bay coastline, Pepper Cove is the sort of beach you stumble upon rather than plan for. It's small, sheltered, and backed by low cliffs - the kind of place where families with young kids can actually relax without worrying about strong currents or massive swells. The sand here is proper golden when the sun's on it, and at low tide you get reasonable space to spread out. It's free, naturally, and requires no booking or palaver.

You won't spend all day here unless you're the type who genuinely enjoys doing nothing. An hour or two with a picnic, maybe a paddle, and you've got the measure of it. The real appeal is its position on the coast path - it works brilliantly as a midway stop if you're walking between Treyarnon and Padstow, breaking up what would otherwise be a long trek. Dog walkers particularly rate it because it's low-key and rarely rammed.

Staying at one of the nearby parks - Padstow Holiday Village and Dennis Cove Campsite are both within four miles - you could easily include Pepper Cove as part of a broader beach-hopping routine around the bay. It's not dramatic or Instagram-worthy, but that's rather the point. Weather matters here; on a grey day it feels a bit exposed and windswept. Choose a decent afternoon and you'll understand why locals keep quiet about it.
