The Pentrich Revolution was a failed uprising in 1817 when local framework knitters and labourers marched from this Derbyshire village towards Nottingham, hoping to spark a wider rebellion. It lasted about 12 hours before militia quashed it. Today there's not much to see on the ground - no visitor centre, no museum, just the landscape where it happened. But that's precisely why it matters to anyone interested in early 19th-century working-class history.

Belper, three miles away, is your nearest proper town and makes a good base if you're combining this with Derbyshire's industrial heritage trail. You're looking at a thoughtful walk rather than a destination with facilities. Bring a decent guidebook or research it beforehand - the story is gripping but the site itself won't explain it to you.
