Penoffa Paw Paddock Dog Field

The moment you arrive at Penoffa Paw Paddock near Presteigne, you realise this is somewhere dogs actually want to be - proper open space where they can properly run. It's a dog field in the truest sense: unfenced grassland where your spaniel or terrier gets to do what they were bred for without worrying about the lead.

The reserve sits just outside Presteigne in Powys, and it's the sort of place that makes sense if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks - Rockbridge Park and Hush Hush Glamping are both within walking distance, which is brilliant if you've got a restless dog in tow. Even Presteigne Holiday Park, a few miles further out, uses this as an obvious outlet for their guests' animals.

What you get is genuine countryside rather than a manicured dog park. It's genuinely useful for families who've brought their pets on a Welsh holiday and need somewhere to let them burn energy off-lead. The space itself is generous enough that dogs aren't constantly bumping into each other, and for owners of reactive animals, that's the difference between a relaxing half-hour and constant anxiety.

Bring a ball or a toy - standing around watching your dog sniff grass gets thin after ten minutes. The ground can be boggy depending on rain, so wellies sensible. There's no cafe, no facilities, no charge as far as we can tell. Just land, grass, and dogs doing their thing. It won't take longer than an hour, and that's plenty. Not Instagram-worthy, but genuinely useful.
