Pen y Bedw East Top

The walk up Pen y Bedw East Top from Betws-y-Coed takes about ninety minutes if you're moving steadily, and the effort pays off with proper views across the Conwy Valley. It's not the highest peak around here - Snowdonia's got plenty of bigger names - but there's something satisfying about a summit that doesn't require a full day's expedition.

The path itself climbs through woodland first, which is lovely in autumn when the bracken turns copper, then opens onto moorland as you gain height. On a clear day you're looking at the Carneddau range stretching out in front of you, and back towards the coast if you're lucky with the weather. Most walkers hit this on their way between bigger peaks, which means the summit rarely feels rammed.

It's genuinely rewarding for families with teenagers who can manage a steady climb - kids under ten might find it a bit of a slog without much to keep them entertained en route. The moorland section is exposed, so wind can be a factor even when it looks calm in the valley below.
