Pen Llyn Cyfynwy

The walk up Pen Llyn Cyfynwy from Ruthin takes you through proper Denbighshire countryside, and it's one of those peaks that rewards the effort without demanding a full day's commitment. You're looking at a moderate climb through mixed woodland and open moorland - reckon on ninety minutes up, an hour back down if you're not dawdling.

What makes it worth doing is the view from the top. On a clear day you get sight lines across the Vale of Clwyd towards Snowdonia, and the landscape just spreads out below you in layers of green and purple moorland. The summit itself is bare and wind-scoured, nothing fancy - just a proper vantage point where you can actually see where you've come from.

It's ideal for walkers who want a decent climb without the full alpine experience. Families with reasonably fit kids will manage it fine. History buffs might appreciate the Clwydian Range connections - you're in territory steeped in old Wales. The peak sits well within striking distance of Clwydian Glamping Pods and Campsite, only six miles away, which makes this a logical morning or afternoon outing if you're based in the area.

Allow three hours total if you're taking photos and having a breather at the top. Spring or autumn are best - summer can be muggy on the climb, and winter'll catch you out if the weather turns. No facilities at the summit, so bring water and something to eat. Free to access.
