About Pen Coed
You get rewarded with views across the Shropshire Hills and into Wales proper on a clear day. The peak itself is fairly exposed, so bring a windproof even when it's mild at base level. This is walker territory rather than a family afternoon out - kids under eight will find it a bit dull once they've reached the top, and there's nothing to do up there except enjoy the view and eat a sandwich.
The real value is if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks like Riverbend or Pandy Camping and fancy a proper walk without driving miles. It slots neatly into a morning's outing before heading into Welshpool for lunch. The paths are generally well-maintained, though they can get boggy after heavy rain - go midweek if you can, as weekends see quite a bit of foot traffic.
Free to access, as most Welsh peaks are. Bring an OS map though - phone signal up there is dodgy at best. Well worth the walk if you're in the area for a few days.
