Peatmire Hill

The climb up Peatmire Hill isn't long, but it's steep enough that you'll feel it in your legs. Starting from the lower slopes near Kendal, the path winds through moorland with views across the Lakeland fells that get better with every hundred metres gained. You're looking at roughly an hour to the summit if you take it steady, maybe forty-five minutes if you're fit and focused.

It's the sort of hill that locals do regularly but tourists often miss, which means you won't be queuing for photos at the top. On a clear day the views stretch across to the higher peaks - genuinely excellent for a hill this accessible. The moorland setting gives it character too; it doesn't feel like a manicured path but something more raw and honest.

Walkers will enjoy it most, particularly those who want proper views without committing to a full Lake District day. Families with older kids can manage it fine, though younger ones might struggle with the steepness. Allow a couple of hours including the descent and a breather at the top.
