Peak Trinity Church

The church sits on Peak Hill just outside Bakewell, commanding views across the White Peak that make the short climb genuinely worthwhile. It's a Victorian rebuild - the original medieval structure was replaced in the 1880s - and it's all pale stone and purposeful Gothic, the sort of building that looks exactly right on its hilltop perch.

You're here for two things: the interior, which is straightforward and pleasant rather than spectacular, and the walk itself. The approach through fields takes about fifteen minutes from the road, and it's the sort of gentle uphill that settles your legs in for a longer day exploring the area. The views back toward Bakewell and across to the surrounding limestone hills are genuinely good. On a clear afternoon there's proper clarity to the landscape.

It works best as part of a walking loop rather than a destination in itself - you'd spend maybe forty minutes here including the climb, then push on toward Haddon Hall or down into the river valleys. Families with young kids might find the walk a bit much for what amounts to a quick look inside, but anyone staying at Greenhills Holiday Park or Lathkill Wild Campsite - both within walking distance - could easily make it part of an afternoon.

Admission appears to be free, and there's no set opening hours to worry about, though you'll want decent daylight. Go midweek if you can. The Peak gets busy at weekends, and this hilltop spot has nowhere to hide when it's crowded.
