The lake at Patshull dominates everything here - a proper expanse of water that catches the light beautifully on clear days. It's a straightforward spot for a couple of hours of gentle walking. Birdwatchers should bring binoculars - the reserve supports decent numbers of waterfowl, especially in winter. The open shoreline gives you plenty of vantage points without needing specialist gear.

Shifnal's just a few miles south if you need supplies or a pub lunch before or after. If you're staying at Worfe Camping nearby, this works as a half-day diversion that won't eat up your entire morning. Free access, which is refreshing - just turn up and walk. Spring and early summer are best, when the woodland floor comes alive and the water's calm enough to actually spot things.

It's not dramatic or showy. There's no tearoom, no visitor centre, no gift shop. That's precisely the appeal. You get decent countryside without the queue management, which is worth something in Shropshire.
