Parnell's Bridge

Built in the 19th century, Parnell's Bridge carries real historical weight - it's named after Charles Stewart Parnell, the Irish nationalist politician, though the bridge itself is less about grandeur and more about sturdy Victorian engineering. The arched stonework is genuinely impressive once you get close, especially if you catch it in afternoon light when the river sparkles beneath.

It's a quick detour rather than a destination that'll eat up your afternoon. History buffs will find it worth ten minutes, walkers heading into the Mourne Mountains can easily build it into a route, and if you're camping at Tollymore Campsite or Camping Tollymore Forest Park - both virtually on your doorstep - it's practically unmissable. The bridge itself is free to cross and photograph, though there's not much beyond that. You're not getting refreshments or facilities here, just a solid piece of Victorian infrastructure and views down the river valley.
