The view from Park View is genuinely worth a stop if you're based at one of the caravan parks round Nottinghamshire - Boat Lane is practically on your doorstep at just 1.6 miles away. It's a straightforward viewpoint that gives you a proper sense of the landscape rolling out across the East Midlands, which beats trudging round another museum if the weather's half decent.

You're looking at open countryside from here, the kind of vista that makes you remember why you drove out to the middle of England in the first place. No fancy facilities or heritage interpretation boards - just a spot where someone decided the view was worth stopping for. Families with restless kids will get maybe twenty minutes out of it, which is fine. Walkers using it as a waypoint on a longer route make better use of the place.

If you're staying at Peacock Lake Glamping or Gunthorpe Camping, both about 3.5 miles away, it slots neatly into a half-day out round Nottinghamshire. Pair it with a walk through the surrounding fields and you've got yourself a proper afternoon. The drive from Nottingham isn't painful either.

Be realistic though - this is a viewpoint, not a destination. Go if the light's good and you've got time to kill between the caravan park and dinner. Don't reroute your day specially for it. Bring a flask, stand about for ten minutes, then crack on.
