Park Hill

Park Hill rises sharply from the landscape near Milnthorpe, offering one of those sudden, proper views across the Morecambe Bay area that makes you understand why people bother with Lakeland peaks at all. It's not a massive undertaking - more of a determined walk than an expedition - but the climb is steep enough that you'll feel you've earned the vista when you reach the top.

The fell itself is accessible and straightforward, making it ideal for families with older kids or anyone wanting a quick hit of elevation without spending half the day on it. The route doesn't demand specialist kit, though it does demand a bit of fitness. On a clear day the panorama justifies the effort - you get a real sense of how the Lake District landscape drops away toward the coast.

There's no café or facilities at the summit, so bring water and something to eat. Allow between two and three hours for a round trip, depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top. Timing matters here; early morning or late afternoon light transforms the views, and avoiding peak hours means you'll have the fell largely to yourself.

Staying at one of the nearby parks - Gillcumber Glamping Pods or Little Acre Holiday Park are closest - gives you easy access for a morning walk before the day proper gets going. It works well as part of a wider exploration of the fells around here, and it's close enough to Kendal that you can combine it with a proper day out if the weather turns.
